Anxi Tieguanyin Index for September 2026 at 71.1, Maocha Trading Volume and Price Both Decline
The China Tea Marketing Association, the Anxi County Tea Management Committee, and Anxi China Tea Capital jointly released the Anxi Tieguanyin Index for September 2026 at 71.1. In that month, the Anxi China Tea Capital's maocha trading volume was 1,926.8 tons, a decrease of 223.6 tons or 10.4% from 2,150.4 tons in the same period last year; the transaction value was 223.5088 million yuan, a decrease of 74.5366 million yuan or 25.01% from 298.0454 million yuan in the same period last year; the average transaction price fell 1.88% year-on-year.[1]
The weak market trading this month is related to both weather and demand. In early September, there was frequent rain, and in mid-to-late September, sustained high temperatures hindered tea bud growth, causing the autumn tea picking period to be delayed by 3-5 days compared to previous years and reducing the supply of fresh tea leaves. In the high-mountain tea areas of Anxi, the area of tea gardens suitable for picking in late September was relatively small, and the market volume of early autumn tea dropped sharply. At the same time, merchants visiting the market reported weak demand in sales areas and insignificant holiday effects, and they were cautious about restocking. The combined weakness of supply and demand caused the decline in both volume and price of maocha trading this month.[1]
The Anxi Tieguanyin Index, as one of the local famous tea indices under the China Tea Index, is jointly compiled and released by the above three institutions to reflect changes in Anxi Tieguanyin market trading. The September index and trading data released this time objectively present the market performance in the early autumn tea season affected by climate and end-consumer demand.[1]
